Currently, treatment options not only based on scientific research but also to be seen side of the economy and value. Allocation of costs must be an efficient and balanced with the expected results. Moreover, cancer drugs do not give the same results in all cancer patients.
Rapid advances in cancer control makes hikes cost of cancer in the United States increased from 27 billion U.S. dollars in 1990 to 90 billion U.S. dollars in 2008. The same thing also happened in some other developing countries. Cancer is included in catastrophic disease (need special skills) that can be covered by insurance.
However, though it was covered by insurance, patients currently still have to pay extra to buy drugs that are not included in the list of prescribing patterns. This is also exacerbated by ignorance of what drugs the patient needs.
In general, we agree that getting treatment is the right of every person, despite the expensive medicine. Moreover, cancer convicted does not mean death. There is hope that life can be pursued. Moreover, second-line cancer treatment more specific to the needs of patients can improve patient's quality of life and increase life expectancy. In selecting the drugs necessarily have to choose a drug that could make patients comfortable and reduce the malignancy of the disease.
However, one of the best approach in the fight against cancer is early diagnosis. In many cases, the more premature a cancer is detected, the greater the possibility to be treated before the cancer spreads to other body tissues. Handling cancer should be thorough, do not just focus on treatment, but also preventive and screening, coupled with palliative care for terminal cancer patients.
